Twitter

Twitter is the fastest growing social network right now, partly because it is a totally different kind of web site to what has gone before.

Its format is also known as Micro-blogging, and what it means is that you have only 140 characters to write a status update (or "Tweet") to the world.  You can choose to "follow" other people on Twitter - follow Inkahoot and other people can follow you.

Twitter acts faster than other web sites, because people post their observations in real time.  So when the plane recently landed in the Hudson River in New York, the first public mention of it was on Twitter - long before Google, blogs, television, or newspapers.

You can post to Twitter from the internet, your mobile phone, iPhone, Blackberry, or from special applications such as Tweetdeck which you can download on to your computer which allow you extra control over your tweeting, and whose "Tweets" you view.

Many that have collected legions of followers on Twitter will tell you that Twitter is the next big thing, and that they are attracting customers and sales through it.  Meanwhile most web sites are still getting the fast majority of their traffic through Search, making Twitter and other Social Sites less important.

But Twitter is so new, and growing so fast that no-one really knows where it is going.  Its currently the wildest and most fascinating ride on the internet - why not jump on board and find out?
